Food Choices is the documentary for you if you are considering if a plant-based diet is the right choice and still have lots of questions. Film maker Michal Siewierski sets out to explore what the healthiest and most sustainable options are when it comes to diet and to find answers to the questions that still concern him.
The documentary features experts in nutrition such as Dr. T. Colin Campbell, Dr. Michael Greger and Dr. Pamela Popper and answers many questions that most people will have considered when choosing a plant-based diet. These include topics such as adequate protein, calcium and vitamin B12 and whether other supplements are necessary. The experts also discuss the lack of evidence behind fad diets, particularly low-carb diets and discuss why vegans are sometimes unhealthy.
The film also covers why a plant-based diet is particularly suitable for athletes and how it is anything but plain and boring! (we couldn’t agree more on this!!). And if you have been wondering about choosing organic produce or whether this dietary choice is safe for kids, then the answers are discussed here too.
Of course, you cannot fully look at the benefits of eating a plant-based diet without considering the environmental impact and animal cruelty involved in consuming animal products.
We have watched this documentary twice now and found it really informative. I think it is intended as a place for people to start and to introduce the idea that we shouldn’t accept what we are told without question and that everyone would benefit from becoming more informed and hopefully choosing a plant based diet.
It is also available on Netflix here in Canada, so there is no reason not to give it a try! You can order the movie now from amazon
